Micron Technology chairman and CEO Sanjay Mehrotra said on the company’s earnings call that beyond data centers the next large incremental market is Physical AI. He named autonomous vehicles as the first major deployment and said Micron expects Physical AI to expand over time to humanoid robots and other intelligent autonomous systems. Mehrotra said L4-and-above autonomous vehicles typically need memory capacities exceeding 200 GB and storage measured in multiple TB — roughly an order of magnitude above today’s L2+/L3 systems — and that humanoid robots are expected to have similar storage requirements. Micron said the combination of rising device counts and per-unit storage will make Physical AI an extremely important driver of storage demand by the end of the century.
