Refinitiv cites three sources saying the U.S. has told Germany and France to
release emergency diesel stocks to ease global fuel prices, warning they could
face a possible U.S. diesel export ban if they do not. U.S. shipments now
account for a growing share of diesel supplied to Europe. A recent surge in U.S.
retail diesel prices and inflationary pressure ahead of the midterm elections
has prompted Trump and advisers to discuss an export ban; Trump on Sept. 30 said
he was still weighing options including a ban and acknowledged it could lower
diesel prices but lift gasoline prices.
