Press TV reported Iran’s embassy in Baghdad urged immediate action to restore
Iraqi airport services for Iranian carriers, saying US sanctions have blocked
ground handling and are straining bilateral ties. Iraqi ground handlers halted
services fearing secondary US sanctions after Washington imposed a new round of
sanctions on Iranian airlines, leading to suspension of flights to Baghdad,
Najaf, Erbil and Sulaymaniyah. Reuters reported Baghdad has sought exemptions
from the US Treasury and offered passenger screening and data-sharing
safeguards; the US has so far issued only a one-month limited waiver.
