CPCA secretary-general Cui Dongshu, citing OICA data, said global vehicle sales
in Jan-Aug 2026 totaled 63.43 mln units; China sold 20.31 mln (32.0% share),
down from 35.4% in 2025. The US sold 10.94 mln (17.2%). India’s share rose to
6.7% and its market expanded ~20% YoY. Other emerging markets recorded strong
gains: Thailand +16%, Russia +6%, Vietnam +28%; overall global sales were up 2%.
Cui identified the decline in China’s market as the main driver of the shift in
global shares, with emerging-market growth partly offsetting weakness in China
and the US.
