A US official said the US-Ukraine joint reconstruction investment fund has
agreed its first critical-minerals project and added four energy-related
projects, bringing total projects to six with aggregate commitments of about
$70m. The first minerals allocation will place roughly $30m into a joint
investment platform run by Ukraine’s BGV Group to back early-stage Ukrainian
mining projects targeting rare earths, uranium, beryllium and zirconium, all on
the US critical minerals list. The fund will also finance upgrades to Ukraine’s
power and heating systems, including battery backup capacity and
combined-heat-and-power centers to strengthen supply to infrastructure hit by
attacks. The fund stems from the US-Ukraine minerals agreement signed in April
last year and targets strategic investments in minerals, defense, energy and
infrastructure.
