Japan's finance minister Katayama told Tokyo TV on Saturday the government has
begun adjusting its communications to reassure markets that Prime Minister Sanae
Takaichi is not pursuing a reflationary policy. Katayama said U.S. Treasury
Secretary Bessent regards Takaichi's economic policies as appropriate for
current conditions but questioned whether Japan had adequately communicated that
to investors; Katayama said authorities concluded around late August they needed
to convey the message more clearly to financial markets.
