Yesterday, the second day of China’s National Day holiday, cross‑region mobility exceeded 300 million person‑trips, with short‑ and medium‑distance travel rising notably. Road movements accounted for over 280 million person‑trips nationwide; highway traffic remained elevated and travel was dominated by inter‑scenic roaming and short intra‑regional transfers. Railways carried about 20.4 million passengers as multiple regional rail authorities increased intercity service frequency to accommodate concentrated short‑haul holiday demand and release additional transport capacity.

Shanghai Release, citing China Railway Shanghai Group, says the Yangtze River Delta rail network expects to carry 3.72 mln passengers on Oct. 3. Since the holiday transport period began on Sept. 23 through Oct. 2 the network has carried 33.505 mln passengers, averaging about 3.35 mln per day, indicating strong travel demand.
