Fuji TV reported on Oct. 5 that Japan defence minister Koizumi summoned the commander of U.S. Forces Japan after an alleged killing involving a U.S. service member in Naha, Okinawa. Koizumi said Tokyo views the incident as extremely serious and lodged a protest with Washington.

On the 4th, Iranian foreign ministry spokesman BAGHAEI said Iran briefed Qatari mediators during a brief visit and that the U.S. plan relayed via Qatar largely mirrors prior U.S. positions focused on Iran's nuclear program.
