British media reported on Oct 6 that if Israel shuts the British consulate in Jerusalem, the UK may expel Israeli diplomats. On Sept 8 UK Foreign Secretary Miliband told the House of Commons the UK will ban imports from Israeli settlements in the West Bank. Later that day Israel demanded the UK close its Jerusalem consulate and withdraw staff within 30 days; the deadline expires Oct 8. About 30 British diplomatic staff at the consulate and their families would be affected.
