European Commission president von der Leyen said exporters to the EU will get an
additional year to comply with forthcoming EU methane-emissions rules, moving
enforcement originally due Jan 2027 to Jan 2028. The rules require EU oil and
gas importers to report methane emissions from their suppliers. von der Leyen
said the extension is intended to help firms avoid extra costs amid elevated
energy prices tied to conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine.
