On Oct. 6 the Yemen Houthi rebels said they repelled multiple Saudi-backed
government attempts to advance toward the strategic Bab al-Mandeb Strait. The
group said clashes near positions close to the strait forced government forces
to withdraw. The Houthis said they fired 10 ballistic missiles at government
troop concentrations and reinforcements, causing dozens of government casualties
and destroying multiple military vehicles. Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea
said separately they also repelled government attacks on Houthi positions in
Taiz province. The statement said Saudi forces carried out 66 strikes over the
past 24 hours across western and northern provinces using warplanes, armed
reconnaissance drones and surface-to-surface missiles, causing civilian
casualties including women and children; no casualty figures were provided.
