The Seoul High Court on the afternoon of the 7th acquitted former South Korean
president Yoon Suk-yeol on appeal of charges under the Political Funds Act.
Prosecutors had alleged Yoon and his wife Kim Keon-hee accepted 58 free opinion
polls from a political broker between June 2021 and March 2022 worth about 270
million won, and contended the polls were manipulated to favor Yoon and that
Yoon negotiated survey methodology. Prosecutors argued the conduct damaged
democratic institutions and the transparency of party candidate selection.
