Seoul announced a K-GX (Korea Green Transformation) energy-transition and
decarbonisation plan to 2035 with a headline price tag of 1,000 tln won
(~$747bn). The plan reportedly includes 200 tln won of fiscal spending, more
than 790 tln won of climate financing and a further 220 tln won of
private-sector investment. Targets include 100 GW of renewable capacity by 2030
and electrified/hydrogen vehicles to exceed 70% of new-car sales by 2035. Policy
support will focus on green steel, batteries, solar, wind, hydrogen and small
modular reactors and aims to accelerate decarbonisation of the five
highest-emitting sectors: steel, petrochemicals, refining, cement and
semiconductors & displays, while developing 10 green industries including EVs,
power semiconductors and carbon capture.
