Yan Shaohua, deputy director of Fudan University's China‑EU relations centre, said addressing disputes sector‑by‑sector (eg autos, chemicals) will not resolve the impasse and urged a comprehensive framework covering trade, investment, services and technology. He said the framework should reflect China's rising competitiveness, define mutually acceptable boundaries — including coordinated green‑technology standards and reciprocal market access — and that the EU should work with China on a balanced medium‑to‑long‑term roadmap rather than unilaterally setting deadlines.
