China’s National Health Commission and CHINA STATE PLANNER issued an
implementation plan to expand medical rehabilitation and nursing capacity,
prioritizing R&D and application of frontier technologies in
neurorehabilitation, motor rehabilitation and wound repair. They encourage
industry leaders, universities, research institutes and hospitals to form
industry‑university‑research‑use consortia to speed commercialization and back
R&D on brain–computer interfaces (BCIs), embodied intelligence, bionic drive,
smart rehab devices, implantable/interventional devices and new biomaterials.
The plan calls for development of TCM‑integrated intelligent rehab nursing
products and for qualifying innovative rehab devices and drugs to be entered
into priority review/approval channels according to procedure. Top hospitals are
urged to pilot and document BCI and related product use and to scale innovations
across hospitals, community and home care settings.
