China Coast Guard spokesman Jiang Lue said on Oct. 8 that Philippine Coast Guard
vessel 4409 went to waters near Ren'ai Reef and transferred one injured person
from an illegally grounded vessel. For humanitarian reasons China allowed a
small-boat transfer; the coast guard said it handled the matter in accordance
with law and provided necessary facilitation. It accused Philippine statements
of distorting facts and warned the Philippines to immediately cease incursions,
provocations and false claims, reaffirming China’s indisputable sovereignty over
the Spratly Islands and adjacent waters including Ren'ai Reef.
