China National Climate Center said monitoring shows a super-strong El Niño
formed in September 2026. It expects equatorial central-eastern Pacific sea
surface temperatures (SSTs) to continue rising over the next three months, peak
in late autumn to early winter, and that this event will be the strongest since
systematic monitoring began.
