The ONS is expected to introduce a seasonally adjusted monthly inflation series
early next year, aligning UK data with US practice and giving economists and
investors a timelier read on near-term price trends to inform policy judgment.
Currently the ONS publishes annual inflation (the Bank of England's primary
gauge) and unadjusted MoM price changes; YoY rates can be distorted by year‑ago
effects, and some economists have long called for a seasonally adjusted monthly
series because US market participants use it to better detect turning points.
