Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said at a routine briefing that on the
morning of the 8th a Philippine coast guard vessel entered waters near Ren'ai
Reef (Second Thomas Shoal) in the Spratly Islands without Chinese permission.
China coast guard took law-based measures it describes as lawful and reasonable;
after communication China, on humanitarian grounds, immediately allowed a
small-boat transfer of an injured person and provided necessary facilitation.
The Philippines says its crew completed a medevac despite alleged Chinese water
cannon and dangerous maneuvers; China accused some Philippine figures of
misrepresenting facts and said it will resolutely respond to any malicious
provocation and firmly defend its territorial sovereignty and maritime rights.
