Leaders of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) on the 9th in
Turkmenbashi, Turkmenistan signed a 35th‑anniversary declaration committing to
deepen strategic partnerships among member states and to keep the CIS as a
dialogue platform grounded in equality and mutual respect. The heads‑of‑state
council named Uzbekistan as rotating CIS chair for 2027, appointed Turkmenistan
and Azerbaijan as co‑chairs, and scheduled the next council meeting for October
next year in Bukhara, Uzbekistan.
