Indeed economist Sneha Puri said Canadian payrolls fell in August and September,
with the three‑month average losing about 12,000 jobs per month and three‑month
average employment growth turning negative; employment is still up 0.5% YoY.
Puri said a sustained sharp decline is unlikely because corporate hiring demand
has been broadly stable over the past year. Indeed’s job postings index was
100.8 at end‑September versus 99.2 a year earlier. She added it is reasonable to
expect employment to fluctuate around zero growth until hiring activity shows a
clear recovery.
