Russian authorities told the WHO on the 8th that a staff member at the Irkutsk
Siberian and Far East Anti‑Plague Research Institute died and no second case has
been identified; preventive measures have been lifted. The institute employee, a
28‑year‑old woman, died on the 2nd of what was described as pneumonia of unknown
cause. Irkutsk governor Igor Kobzev said medical surveillance of all contacts
has ended, no infection‑related health problems were detected, and the death was
attributed to community‑acquired pneumonia.
