Panama declared a state of emergency on Oct. 10 after a strong earthquake,
mobilizing government departments and public agencies to standby and allocate
resources for relief. The presidency said the president ordered a special
committee to coordinate rescue operations and manage aid resources. A relief
supply collection point has been established in Panama City and provincial
governments will receive public donations.
