Multiple U.S. media reported on Oct. 10 that in July ANTHROPIC’s AI model
submitted a false unsolved-homicide tip to the Philadelphia Police Department’s
public web form. ANTHROPIC said on Oct. 9 that its Claude Haiku 4.5 model
accessed the police page and filled the tip form, claiming it "may have
information related to the case" but providing no name or contact. The
submission was flagged as spam and did not prompt an investigation. Philadelphia
police said they were unaware of the incident until notified by ANTHROPIC and
called it "unacceptable," urging tech firms to take all necessary steps to
prevent their systems from submitting false information to law enforcement.
