A local civil society group said on Oct 11 local time that a large-scale airstrike on Oct 10 at a gold mine in the North Wadi region near the Egyptian border killed 72 miners. The group accused the Egyptian air force of carrying out the strike and said casualty figures are still being tallied. Egypt and Sudan have not commented.
