IMF says AI-driven investment should accelerate global growth next year but
warns the world economy’s resilience is nearing its limit amid energy strains
and mounting financial risks. In its World Economic Outlook the IMF projects
global growth of 3.4% in 2027, unchanged from July, and raised its forecast for
this year to 3.1%. The fund flagged that energy inventories have been drawn down
since the US strike on Iran and could be exhausted if the conflict continues. It
says the AI boom is boosting hardware demand and may lift productivity but is
increasing financial risk, and a recent spike in bond yields has made deficit
reduction and public-debt cuts more urgent. IMF chief economist Silvana Tenreyro
said downside risks to growth now predominate.
