Visa said the People’s Bank of China (PBOC) has approved its application to prepare a domestic bank-card clearing institution. The company will complete follow-up work and intends to provide card-clearing services in China. CEO McCain described the approval as an important milestone and said Visa aims to begin operations in China as soon as possible, subject to PBOC regulatory requirements.

Shanghai has launched an action plan to accelerate development of new-generation intelligent manufacturing. The city will implement four major projects and 19 priority tasks to deepen integration of artificial intelligence and manufacturing and speed construction of a new-generation intelligent manufacturing system. The move builds on existing initiatives such as the Smart Factory Pilot Plan and AI+Manufacturing to raise innovation and application levels. Implementation will coordinate work across supply capacity, integration and innovation, factory construction and the industry ecosystem.
