Silvana Tenreyro, IMF chief economist, said inflation risks remain and monetary
policy should stay firmly focused on price stability. She said central banks
need to keep policy sufficiently tight to bring about disinflation to target and
to prevent second‑round inflation effects. Pass‑through from commodity price
rises to core inflation is currently contained, but policymakers should remain
vigilant. She warned that if commodity gains and tech‑investment‑related factors
further raise inflationary pressure, central banks would need to tighten policy
further. "Different countries may require different policy stances, but the
objective is the same: ensure price stability. Central bank independence remains
essential to achieve that goal."
