Bolivia is overhauling gold export rules to boost USD inflows and dollar
deposits at domestic banks, ending a three-year central bank-regulated
certification regime. Under the new rules exporters must prove to mineral and
metals trade regulator SENARECOM that at least 80% of export proceeds are
deposited in Bolivian financial institutions; exporters will no longer need a
central bank-issued certificate to ship gold. The reform, backed by the
president and announced Wednesday, is aimed at increasing foreign-exchange
inflows, improving USD availability and tightening oversight of gold exports.
