Axios, citing people familiar with the matter, reports Bill Gates is preparing
to significantly expand his AI safety initiative, press corporate leaders and
consider substantial personal funding as he shifts from optimism to concern over
rising model capability and successive safety incidents and what he sees as
insufficient regulation. Gates has engaged industry senior executives,
researchers and safety advocates, including ANTHROPIC CEO Dario Amodei, and
views controlling AI risk as among the most important issues of his lifetime;
that push would likely put him at odds with the Trump administration, which
favors lighter regulation and is organizing a voluntary safety accord overseen
by senior officials.
