US producer prices surged in September, signaling energy-driven pass-through and
persistent inflationary pressure. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics said PPI
rose 1.3% MoM and 6.3% YoY. Core PPI excluding food and energy rose 0.7% MoM and
5.0% YoY. Fuel price gains were a key driver. A separate Wednesday report showed
a key consumer-price gauge exceeded forecasts, and a six-month expected
input-price measure climbed to its highest level since 2022, suggesting price
pressures may remain elevated in coming months. The data may prompt Fed
officials to continue tightening policy in the months ahead, with living costs
already a central issue weeks before mid-November elections.
