The dollar weakened after Fed official Kevin Warsh’s remarks failed to boost the
currency, leaving the greenback poised to end a four‑week advance. The Bloomberg
Dollar Spot Index fell as much as 0.4% on Friday and was on track for its worst
weekly performance since Sept. 4. The dollar slipped versus most major peers
while the euro rose, set to snap a five‑week decline. Speaking at the IMF annual
meeting in Bangkok, Warsh made no comments on U.S. policy or the economy,
prompting investors to trim bets on a Fed rate hike later this month ahead of
the Fed’s pre‑meeting blackout period. CIBC capital markets strategist Noah
Buffam said Warsh offered no policy guidance, which markets interpreted as a
signal that the Fed may not raise rates in October.
