Yuehai Feed said at an Oct. 15 investor meeting that the WMO and US NOAA warned in Sept. 2026 the current El Niño is expected to peak by year-end at near-super-strong intensity and could persist into early 2027. The company called the event two-sided: a warmer South China winter may lengthen aquaculture cycles and raise demand and growth efficiency for shrimp and marine fish feed, and fewer northwest Pacific typhoons would lower storm risk in main production areas. Risks include abnormal water temperatures increasing disease and pond losses, extreme drought or flood damage to facilities, and El Niño-driven disruptions to global soybean and corn regions that could push up raw-material prices.
