Ukraine's energy ministry said Russian forces carried out sustained strikes on
energy infrastructure from the early hours to the morning of Oct 17, damaging
facilities and causing power outages across 10 oblasts — Vinnytsia, Volyn,
Donetsk, Zaporizhia, Zhytomyr, Odesa, Rivne, Ternopil, Khmelnytskyi and Kharkiv.
Some areas have been placed on rolling blackout schedules to manage supply
shortfalls. Ukraine's air force said Moscow used various missiles and about 332
UAVs from 18:00 on Oct 16; as of 08:00 on Oct 17 Ukraine's air-defence forces
had shot down or suppressed 293 aerial targets, including four Kalibr cruise
missiles and 289 UAVs. Russian UAVs were confirmed to have struck 22 locations;
wreckage from downed UAVs was found at three additional sites.
