Heilbronn police said on Oct. 17 hackers accessed email accounts of the ruling CDU’s Heilbronn local organization and sent phishing emails to roughly 6,500 contacts, among them Chancellor Merz, government departments and other political contacts. Police said some recipients work in security‑sensitive areas. Investigation is ongoing and it is unclear whether any material damage occurred.
