Qatar’s deputy prime minister said Doha has maintained open communication
channels with Iran despite attacks on Qatari territory and bilateral
differences. He said the two countries had built a trust-based relationship and
jointly develop a natural gas field, and that “until June last year there had
been no conflict incidents” — a reference to Iran’s 2025 retaliatory action
after a US strike on Iranian nuclear sites. He described Doha as “surprised” by
the attack on the Ras Laffan gas facility, said Qatar has since spoken with
Tehran, “we have never stopped communicating,” and that contacts at various
levels have produced some “consensus.”
