China's CSRC approved the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) first batch of actively managed ETFs on 2026-10-19. Managers selected have established active equity investment and ETF operation capabilities; initial strategies target low-turnover, highly diversified, relatively conservative approaches covering large-cap balanced, large-cap growth and dividend/value mandates. As of end‑September 2026, 943 ETFs trade on the SSE with total AUM CNY 3.35 tln; long-term holdings stand at about CNY 1.7 tln, over half of the market, and the exchange says incremental inflows are accelerating. SSE says it will work under CSRC guidance to broaden product offerings and build a long-term investment ecosystem to support the public fund sector.
