Local authorities confirmed on the 19th that a collapse at an illegal gold mine
in rural Nariño province in southwest Colombia killed 14 and injured seven.
Gabriel Ocaña, a provincial disaster risk management official, said all buried
workers have been recovered, rescue operations are complete and there are no
missing; he attributed the collapse to recent heavy rains, fragile geology and
illegal mining activity.
