IEA executive director Fatih Birol said Tuesday the timetable for releasing the
20+ mln barrels of diesel from emergency stocks depends on individual member
countries and winter market conditions. The IEA last week moved to accelerate
delivery of record emergency releases committed in March, including more than 20
mln barrels of diesel, to boost supply and ease surging prices. Birol said the
agency would consider further releases from members' strategic reserves if
necessary and is ready to act should multiple Middle East crises intensify and
members agree to trigger additional releases.
