Former prime minister Shigeru Ishiba told a TV program Prime Minister Sanae
Takaichi has been dishonest on historical issues, saying Japan’s wartime actions
caused tens of millions of deaths and that dishonest handling of history by
Takaichi’s government and the Japanese right undermines stable diplomacy. He
added Takaichi’s pledge to make Japan “strong and wealthy” has not materialized,
warned Japan’s GDP could fall to sixth globally next year, and said the
so-called “Sanae economics” “will not make people happy.”
