Japan agriculture minister Takebe apologised on 21 Oct after being accused of illegally accepting political donations. Authorities say Takebe received donations during the 2024 lower-house election from companies contracted for public works, potentially breaching the Public Offices Election Law. He said he will verify the facts, instruct repayment of the funds and correct political funding reports. Takebe, 56 and from Hokkaido, was appointed on Oct. 15 to replace a minister who resigned earlier this month.
