SpaceX reported Q3 net income of $4.4 billion versus $1.88 billion expected and
revenue up 161% YoY, sending shares as much as 12.4% higher intraday on
Wednesday. Despite the beat, the company said it will continue heavy investment,
prompting market concern over larger future borrowing. The 6.6% bond due 2046
widened 9bps to a 264bps spread; the five-year CDS rose to 232.6bps, marking
multiple fresh highs this month. CFO Brett Johnson said SpaceX will prioritize
compute capacity for its super-intelligence unit and investment in Starlink
broadband and mobile, and is in talks with multiple debt providers. The company
issued $25 billion of bonds in June and has been reported to be seeking about
$40 billion of financing to buy NVIDIA chips. Johnson said SpaceX plans to
maintain an investment-grade rating.
