A New Mexico state court ordered Meta Platforms (META.O) to pay a $25 billion
civil fine after a jury found the company violated state consumer protection law
more than 43 million times. The state attorney general accused Meta of making
false statements about user-data protection after the Cambridge Analytica breach
and of misleading the public on content moderation and hate-speech policies. The
penalty is among the largest civil fines in U.S. judicial history.
