Washington-based maritime security think tank tracking incidents since 2017 says
October was the worst month for attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of
Hormuz and adjacent waters. It recorded 28 confirmed reported incidents in
October and 113 since Feb. 28, when US and Israeli hostilities against Iran
began. The tally aligns with IMO data, which shows about 120 related incidents
in the Strait and wider Middle East since the Iran conflict started. IMO and
MarineTraffic lists identify more than 30 damaged VLCCs, 11 of them in October.
