Oct 29, at the 2026 Fengyun Satellite Users Conference the first batch of Fengyun satellite extreme-weather AI models was released, moving applications from nowcasting toward short-term forecasting. The typhoon cloud-interpretation model fuses Fengyun multi-channel cloud imagery and ancillary satellite products to automatically analyze typhoon position, structure, intensity and evolution and to generate interpretive text. It covers seven typhoon features, integrates more than 20 satellite products, runs every 15 minutes and produces text in 27 seconds. A separate strong-convection short-lead warning model uses two hours of continuous Fengyun-4 observations with AI to forecast up to four hours ahead by decomposing cloud evolution into large-system translation and local system growth/decay.
