A fire broke out at the Savannah River National Laboratory in South Carolina on
Oct. 28. Officials said the blaze was extinguished and no offsite radioactive
contamination has been reported. The DOE said one employee suffered minor
injuries. U.S. media reported the fire disrupted local rail, maritime and road
transport; the cause is under investigation. The laboratory is primarily used
for nuclear waste management and processing.
