The previous cold outbreak ended yesterday and northern China has seen a short
warm-up. Through today and tomorrow northern temperatures will continue to rise;
the 20°C daytime isotherm will shift north to southern Shanxi, northern Hebei
and central Beijing. The warming is temporary: two cold-air systems, tracking
along eastern and western routes, will affect China from tonight to Oct 31 and
from Oct 31 to Nov 1. Cold air will reach southern China later, so the southern
warm spell will persist longer; however the cold surge will be significantly
weakened by the time it reaches the Nanling range, and South China is expected
to stay relatively warm next week with highs near 30°C.
