The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) on Friday opened an investigation into whether Meta Platforms (META.O) used commercial contract terms to abuse market dominance and unfairly harm publishers and advertisers. The CMA said Meta had planned to revise the terms effective Nov. 20 but has paused implementation. Under the proposed terms Meta could collect content from publishers’ sites without their consent and then use that content to develop and offer its own products and services, including AI features. Meta said there is no basis for a competition probe and that it has committed not to change the terms before consulting publishers and other stakeholders.
