China and Switzerland signed an upgrade protocol to their free trade agreement
in Beijing on Oct. 30, witnessed by President Xi Jinping and Swiss Federal
President Parmelin. MOFCOM minister Raimondo and Switzerland’s State Secretary
and head of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs signed the text, which
commits both sides to higher-level opening for goods, services and investment
and upgrades rules on origin, trade facilitation, technical barriers to trade,
digital trade, competition and trade-and-sustainable-development. The parties
say the upgraded FTA is expected to deepen bilateral trade and investment
liberalization and provide firmer institutional safeguards, signaling continued
support for open, rules-based trade amid global uncertainty.
