Three senior Gulf officials told U.S. media the Trump administration has
notified Gulf allies to prepare for a possible brief, intense new round of
military strikes on Iran on Nov. 4 (the day after U.S. midterm elections). The
administration’s stated objectives are to further degrade Iran’s nuclear program
or compel a deal. The U.S. has not struck Iran since Sept. 1 and is currently
pressuring Tehran via a maritime blockade of Iranian ports. Gulf officials said
some states may oppose U.S. use of bases on their territory for such attacks.
